Yashahime Episode 15

I think so many of my feelings and observations have been stated by others at this point, but here go my rambling thoughts anyway.

First the negative:  It was an oddly structured episode.  The introduction threw us straight into the past, very, very briefly framed by Riku as the narrator.  Did Riku break the fourth wall or were we to assume a listener we did not see?  I’m still not sure.  So much information was thrown at the audience that it did not feel like there was enough times to savor the emotions of the moments ...  very very important moments that showed us Inuyasha and Kagome’s home and married dynamic, pregnant Kagome, RIN HAVING HER BABIES with Kaede, Sango and Kagome being there (I LOVED that), Sesshomaru taking his babies...I’m willing to wait and assume this rushed narrative is on purpose, but it was a little jarring.

Now the good:

Rin is the mommy!  I knew that.  I was convinced on August 1st during the livestream, but it was a sweet (if all too brief) moment.  Mamiko Noto’s voice as Rin was so perfect.  It was sweet, but it was subdued.  It was the voice of a someone who had just birthed twins and knows something awful is about to go down.  To hear her name the babies was a beautiful moment, and how sweet were baby Towa and Setsuna.  Towa looked a little grumpy/sleepy, but baby Setsuna was already smiling :).  I do think they will show that Setsuna, deep down, is a smiling sweet girl like her mother and that circumstances made her like she is.  It also makes me think that we have only seen one side of Towa -- we haven’t really seen what she has inherited from Sesshomaru -- yet.

I loved that all of Rin’s friends surrounded her and helped her have her babies.  The twins hurrying to get Kaede, Sango going for Kagome...it was a community event!  But seriously, to know that if only for a short while, Rin got to be surrounded by love and peace with her babies by her side makes the bitterness of Sesshomaru taking the babies so quickly afterwards a little easier to bear.  Just a little.  Sango the experienced mom.  Kaede the midwife.  Rin the new mom.  Kagome the expectant mom.  Imagine the conversations and bonding.  Their kids should have grown up together :(. 

And I am going to speculate, until the show proves me wrong, that Rin probably had her own hut and continued to live in the village after she married Sesshomaru, or at least after she got pregnant.  The fact that the twins came to get Kaede at night makes me think that she was not in Kaede’s hut.  Wouldn’t Kaede be at her own place at night? 

Like Inuyasha and Kagome, I think Rin and Sesshomaru had their own place:

This looks different from Kaede’s hut.  I don’t remember the little pathway on the left, but it’s impossible to tell if they are next to the gate here.  Again, I’m choosing to believe they had their own place.

So, this makes me consider how much Sesshomaru really did settle down for Rin.  He gave up his titles.  He did not take her to a castle in the air.  He let her stay among her friends and start a family WITH HIM but still within the village.  He gave her the best of both worlds.  He MARRIED her.  How many times was she called his wife or bride?  She’s no concubine or human piece on the side.  He MARRIED her.  Since he had not seen his mother in a while, I’m assuming he married her in her village, letting everyone know she wasn’t just some poor village girl taken advantage of by the powerful yokai. And it clearly wasn’t just a human marriage.  All the big bad demons called Rin Sesshomaru’s wife. What honor, respect and love he showed to her, a mere human peasant (though of course we all know she is so much more than that, especially to Sesshomaru).

Was he like many lords and installed her in her own home, visiting and staying with her when he did not have business to attend to?  Or did he tell Inuyasha that he better get used to having another demon hanging out in his forest by the village?  Like...for all intents and purpose, Sesshomaru may have been living in the same village as Inuyasha, both intending to raise their families together.  I love that.  Please Yashahime, don’t dissuade me of this.

Poor Sesshomaru...sigh...I know it doesn’t look great for him right now...but that will change.  The story is not going to make him the villain.  It’s just not.  But yes, poor Sesshomaru.  He got to be happy about his babies being born for all of about two seconds before Zero interrupted him.  Look at his little smile while he listens to his daughters’ first cries:

He had his worried face on, and then he smiled.  He’s a dad in the waiting room.  And the TONE of Jaken’s voice when he declared that they had been born.  The WARMTH, the LOVE.  Grandpa Jaken I love you so much.

This bitch, though, I don’t love at all:

Does she have some kind of magic yokai ultrasound that lets her know Sesshomaru had twin daughters and predicted Kagome would have a daughter?  I look forward to seeing how this all unravels, but the fact that she showed up IMMEDIATELY after the girls were born is frightening, and maybe that was why Sesshomaru was at the outskirts of the village instead of closer by?  Clearly, they were expecting some kind of attack, but dang...that happened fast.

Who is this lady anyway?  I’ve seen it speculated that it may be Riku’s mother...and yes?  I could see that.  Did she have a hanyou she was not allowed to keep,  poor Riku tossed overboard, and now she seeks revenge? Or was she rejected by Toga? Those tears of hers.  Who was she crying for?

As many others noticed, this was a little odd:

What about Sesshomaru’s mother?  He hasn’t seen her in years (such a bad son), and when they go to her castle, she’s missing.  Was she just off doing flying dog stuff in the sky?  Was she shopping for expensive jewelry and designer silks?  I’m assuming she was not at Sesshomaru’s wedding.  Or did Zero do something to her and Sesshomaru just wasn’t aware?  I’m dying to see more of Sesshomaru’s mom.  I want her to meet the twins and just throw out her arms all, “Come to Grandma!  Let me buy you things and tell you stories about your dad.”  But that remains to be seen.

Speaking of grandparents, can I say yet again that I love the honorary grandparents Kaede and Jaken, both trying to protect Rin in their own way.  Kaede doesn’t hold back and calls Sesshomaru a fool (imagine what she was like when Sesshomaru was truly courting Rin) while Jaken comforts Rin when her babies are taken away.  Again, the voice acting by Jaken’s VA is EVERYTHING in this episode.  The LOVE he conveys.  He’s perfect.  I love him.  I do.

And Rin knew the plan. She knew what was going to happen, but poor thing...I wish it could have been different for her.  Look how much she loves and trusts Sesshomaru.  That expression clearly says “Look what I made! Look what WE made!”  I wish we could have seen them react to the babies together. 

Also, look at how Sango is about THISCLOSE to putting on her slayer clothes and kicking Sesshomaru’s ass when he scooped up those babies and turned away:

The rest of the episode was such a jumble of events.  Sesshomaru AND Jaken were with Inuyasha and Kagome when the comet arrived, which was after the twins’ birth but before Moroha’s.  Even if they are hanyo, I don’t think Jaken and Sesshomaru would have left newborn babies alone.  Rin was with them.  Jaken even said he was bringing Rin to them (I assume after she recovered from birthing twins).  Further supporting this would be the dream gazing spell business --  Like others have said, I’m pretty sure Rin sacrificed herself to keep her remaining daughter safe after Towa was pulled into the future.

Miscellaneous observations:

1. What the hell is going on with the comet? Every 500 years?  So, the Higurashis might be in for a surprise pretty soon?  Comet remnants are still in the sky though...

2. Why in the hell did Inuyasha bring his pregnant wife along for the comet destruction? Why exactly was she there?  Unless he was too worried about her safety to leave her behind?

3. Riku is one shady fellow.  HE found the compact?  How did he know where to look? I know, I know.  Don’t be hasty, but c’mon.  We don’t have that many episodes left.

4.  I like how they portrayed a pregnant Kagome.  I like this little side view where you can see she’s chunky, but it’s not an exaggerated thing:

5. Sesshomaru and Rin had babies before Inuyasha and Kagome! On one level, it is very sweet.  Of anyone, Rin and Sesshomaru are very aware of the fragility of life and how fleeting time is.  Look at the names of their daughters.  It makes sense that they wanted a family quickly.  On the other hand, I cannot shake the idea that the brothers did get competitive with each other.  I can imagine Inuyasha knocking up Kagome as quickly as possible after finding out that Rin was pregnant.  Then Sesshomaru has TWO daughters to Inuyasha’s one.  I am longing for some brotherly interactions.  Let Inuyasha call him a hypocrite at least once.  Let Sesshomaru gloat that he has TWO super awesome daughters. Let the daughters watch their ridiculous fathers fist fight while their mothers pour water on them and tell them to SIT.  Please.

6. Besides emphasizing the fact that Rin is Sesshomaru’s WIFE, the episode also emphasized the fact that Rin actually birthed the girls. Rin is in labor, it will be soon, you did well, Rin, Rin resting in bed with her daugthers, her voice weak and tired, the tub used to wash the babies in the background.  There was no magic switcheroo.  The twins were not found beneath a tree.  Sesshomaru did not sprout them from a forgotten limb. They came out of Rin’s body.  She’s the mom. She made them with her husband. End of.

6. Finally, this is the best part of the episode.

You sure did, Rin.

okay so i'm about halfway through season one of the nijigasaki section of Love Live! School Idol Festival ALL STARS and i'm gonna rank the nijigasaki girls as i feel about them now. i'm interested to see if it'll change as i learn more about them (i'm only gonna rank the original crew, i can't pass good judgement on shioriko, mia, or lanzhu yet) from favorite to least favorite: 1. rina 2. karin 3. ai 4. shizuku 5. kanata 6. emma 7. setsuna 8. ayumu 9. kasumi

she's number one cuz she's the reason i even decided to FINALLY check out love live, her design is cute and i love her personality. i feel connected to her and i admire her goal of wanting to connect to lots of people! she's shy but she's doing her best! also characters with masks are always great haha

she's so pretty and she's trying to play the part of "the cool mature adult" but there's so many moments when you can tell that she's a little overwhelmed by all the expectations even her friends put on her NOW THATS SOME DEPTH also i think it's funny that she's seen as elegant but sucks at chores lol

cute gyaru who is supportive of everyone and loves rina? big heart eyes right there. she's so peppy and sweet and i love her attitude! edit: ALSO HER PUNS, I LOVE THAT SHE KNOWS THEY'RE BAD BUT SHE STILL KEEPS GOING and she does them to make rina smile, what a good gf

i just wanna protect her......... also i love how dedicated she is to her acting ;-; and her struggle to find her idol "character" and her worry about trying to be her true self or play a role while on stage as an idol... she's so nice, too!

sleepy girl? cares a lot about her sister? love her. i love me a sleepy bitch who also gets shit done. i also like how she cooks for people. not much to say aside from that. it's also funny when she falls asleep on people or just casually declares "you're my pillow now, kthx"

despite initially being like "WENDY'S?" i've grown fond of emma. maybe because we have some things in common (italian stuff, name things, etc.) but she's also just so gentle and kind. she loves food! food is awesome and she's not shy about loving food and sharing it with her friends. she's like a kind big sister to everyone and i admire that. ALSO HER WEIRD ATTACHMENT TO KARIN, THEY'RE LIKE A MARRIED COUPLE

i really didn't care for her at first, especially with the whole "oh she's actually the student council prez!" thing BUT the fact that she's actually a lil nerd inside who likes anime and shit is fun. i respect her trying so hard to balance being the president AND being an idol though i'm much happier now that i've gotten to the part where (spoiler) she no longer has the burden of being president.

ayumu is cute, don't get me wrong. i like that she's "the best friend from childhood who is super attached to you" (probably in love with you too tbh) but i feel like she's missing something????? it still feels like she's only an idol because she knows the player character likes idols. she still kinda feels like she's just "along for the ride" but maybe that's just me. her whole personality is "i love player character and would do anything to make them happy and stay by their side" and that's kinda... boring.

I'M SORRY KASUMI you can be cute sometimes but your weird ulterior motives (trying to make the other girls fat??? or just trying to make them "look bad" in general) and your weird fakeness is just not appealing. i know she's young but she needs to learn to cut that shit out lol. i do like that she refused to give up on the club and that she does do a lot of behind-the-scenes things to support the girls at times, so if she could just give up the weird little "competition" things, that would be nice

*  First things first: if the Senshi are all quarantining *together*, then they must be old enough to be not living with their parents (or lack thereof). Furthermore, they must be living in a place big enough to accommodate all of them. Now, the Outers already have a huge fuck-off house, so if we're cheating and saying ALL the Senshi, not just the Inners, then we can say that Usagi and the girls moved in with Haruka and the girls after high school. Usagi and Makoto and Minako have almost certainly snubbed college; Ami and Rei not only attending, but Ami is aiming to get her Master's, so both of them have to take online courses. Setsuna is teaching them. Haruka and Michiru graduated from college *ages* ago. Hotaru also has to take online courses, but for high school since she'd be about that age at this point. Chibs is not here because she's smarter than to travel back in time to when there was a GLOBAL PANDEMIC. Now then! Usagi is moping because she can't see Mamoru or Chibi-Usa, so she reads manga and watches TV to distract herself. As per her usual she mostly shoves her nose into what everyone else is doing, then gets distracted by a passing butterfly and chases it until she finds something new to stick her nose into. She's honestly taking the quarantine the hardest, even though she's living in a house with all her closest friends. The delivery guy knows her by name and by her super-cute hand-sewn (by Makoto) pink-and-white bunny mask. Makoto has sewn everyone custom masks, actually, which brings us to... Makoto naturally is doing the cooking and cleaning and laundry, and while she does love doing these things, she's now doing them for NINE PEOPLE, and Usagi has never learned to fold a sock in her life, and Ami folds socks but is crazy busy with her coursework, and Minako/Rei/Michiru/Haruka can't be bothered for one reason or another, and Makoto is about to explode because everybody assumes she'll do everything and do it smiling and normally they wouldn't be WRONG but COME THE FUCK ON YOU GUYS. She is in a constant state of being two steps away from an explosion. The only saving grace is Setsuna, who does actually help out in between teaching online courses, and who patiently listens to Makoto vent, because she understands that if Makoto melts down, so will the rest of the household. Makoto has a pink-and-green rose mask; Setsuna has a wine red mask with black stitching. Ami has vanished into her room. STUDY, STUDY, STUDY, STUDY. She is literally taking four courses at once because with a global pandemic, a) what else is there to do with one's life b) the rest of the household is utter chaos c) MUST DEVELOP VACCINE. She has actually be helping researchers online with this under an anonymous name. She *wants* to go out and volunteer, but understands that the best thing she can do is quarantine properly. She is constantly lecturing everyone about Best Quarantine Practices, to the point that the others mostly tune her out now. This is only piling onto her constant stress. Hotaru visits her occasionally with tea and textbooks so they can study and destress together. It's good for both of them, especially since Hotaru, with her health issues, is the most at risk of all of them. Hotaru's also used to isolation, so she's a surprisingly stabilizing presence for everybody. Ami and Hotaru both have standard hospital red-lined white masks along with their custom masks (Ami's is light blue with dolphin clasps on the side; Hotaru's is designed based on that optical illusion that's either a lamp or two people facing each other), because you need one for when the other is in the wash. Minako has become a Twitch game streamer and beauty YouTuber and is updating both CONSTANTLY, with YT guest star appearances by Michiru (who is always effortlessly and flawlessly beautiful) and Rei (who is using Minako to promote her own YouTube channel). Minako tried to get Usagi to be the camerawoman for her YT show but Usagi wanted to be the star too much, so now Minako as strong-armed Haruka into doing it. Haruka is bored out of her mind because she can't go out on drives, so she helps Minako out without complaint. Sometimes she even guest-stars on Minako's Twitch streams, depending on the game. Getting to film beautiful girls making themselves even hotter? Sure, she's into that. Minako's mask is glittery gold with red ribbons for cords; Rei's mask is black with flame decals on the sides; Haruka's is a solid black, tight and sporty; Michiru's is seemingly plain white, "coincidentally" complementing Haruka's, but is made of fine linen and silk. Rei meanwhile doesn't actually know what her channel is about and didn't give two shits about YouTube until Minako started doing it, but Minako is actually raking in a stupid amount of cash from doing this, so Rei figured, how hard could it be?? Right now she's somewhere in between doing her own beauty channel, doing paranormal investigations, cooking channel (she proudly presents instant meals as time- and money-saving masterpieces without an ounce of self-awareness. Haruka has had to hold Makoto back from suplexing her more than once), and a video review column where she tries things out and gives her opinions on them. She's *absolutely furious* that her channel is not as popular as Minako's. She's also strongarmed Haruka into being her camerawoman. Michiru allows this because watching Minako and Rei fight over their respective channels is the most amusement she's had all year. Ami asks Rei when she finds the time to study. It is the worst. Minako has a captive audience and they want new stories faster than she can make them. Makoto has everyone to cook for and they eat so much all the time. Rei has taken charge of how to Do Everything but no one will listen. Ami can hole up with her books but that doesn't mean its quiet enough to read, and she can tutor Usagi but that doesn't mean Usagi is even making a small attempt at listening like in the group study sessions. *  In the best of situations, it is difficult to find housing for nine people on short notice, and these are not the best of situations. Given that she had, from at least the age of four, been bound to the moon by a curse of blood, it should not have come as any grand opportunity to Michiru that the opportunity to recuse herself from larger society life would be immediately and aggressively offset by Haruka's invitation for the Senshi to come quarantine at the Kaioh beach cottage. 

One might assume that perhaps Usagi's parents, or Ami's mother, or Rei's grandfather, might have objected to their children being out of their sight in such a time, but that is to discount the general narrative inconvenience that seemed to pursue Michiru to the last. "Babe, there's like 6 bedrooms in the place," Haruka has said, quite missing the point entirely that Michiru had made it her goal to make use of everyone one of them. And so, here she was, where one might be sipping a glass of champagne on the veranda overlooking the sea, lover at her side, instead she was listening to the endless sniping between Rei and Usagi as they pattered about the house, there was no lover next to her, but only Ami with her endless piles of conspicuously books that Michiru felt quite certain had been selected for the view their covers provided others, Mako sending away the cook for what were noted to be COVID concerns but Michiru felt were more the concern of her longing for the spacious kitchen. Her mind preserved her enough not to speak of Minako, nor of the fact that the one she would have beside her was currently playing Mario Kart with such. Hotaru and Pluto were there, also. Michiru took another deep drink of the wine. With the volume she was consuming, she would have to switch to boxed wine. At this rate, she may qualify as hand santizer herself, which nearly stayed her hand. Usagi wailed loudly at Rei. Michiru took another drink. No Matter, she thought, for I will not die before my appointed time. The Moon will certainly see to that.  -- @docholligay  [You absolutely catered this to me and you know it, you whore. *  Usagi is thrilled to have all of her favorite people in one place. Mako will cook! Ami will read to them! Mina will write and Rei will direct plays for them all to perform! Haruka will make sure they stay fit! Michiru will teach them etiquette! Hotaru and Setsuna will also be there! Her favorite cats will be there to purr and offer guidance without actual knowledge and nagging! Yay! After a week, Usagi is still relentlessly happy. To be otherwise would be to admit that her friends are not perfect, perfectly suited for each other, and perfectly happy. She hasn't seen Haruka and Michiru at all in days; they commandeered the back bedroom with it's own bathroom and the others only know they're still in there by the noises *ahem*, by the food delivery people who keep coming to the door, and the empty food containers that appear in the hallway. Mina and Rei are not speaking to each other after the Hair Clip Incident. Ami is still diligently serving as a go-between, but Mako refused and will not give either of them any of her cooking, so Rei keeps making Hello Curry and leaving the kitchen a disaster, while Mina somehow keeps convincing Haruka and Michiru's uber eats drivers to give her stuff. There is only one litter box for the two cats, and that is not enough. And Artemis keeps leaving the seat up on the toilet. No one knows how, or why, but he does. Hotaru and Setsuna are also there. Worst (best?) of all, Usagi doesn't miss Mamoru at all, and hasn't actually noticed his absence. *  Rei's Journal: It's day 8 under lockdown and I have somehow managed to retain my sanity. It has not been easy. By day 4 Minako and Makoto were at each other's throats because Minako tried to clip her toenails in the kitchen, due to Ami holing herself up in the bathroom. Makoto threatened to make Minako eat a toenail burrito, and by God I think Minako actually would eat it just to show Mako up. It has been a struggle to keep Usagi from eating all the food, and I fear she is contemplating the idea of eating Luna and/or Artemis. Ami is retreating further and further into her shell. She has solved every math problem in every math book she had at her disposal, and is now showing withdrawal symptoms. The walls of her room are covered in math equations. I am doing as best I can; my rations of "Here!" Quarantine snacks have been balanced to last me for at least the next week, but after that point I am not sure what happens. As a shrine maiden, I'm used to long periods of silence in my meditation. It's been difficult keeping my focus with Usagi and the others slowly losing their minds, but I am a survivor if nothing else. If I could survive D-Point, I can survive this... *  Everyone's locked into separate rooms by day 2, or make-shift rooms with blankets taped to the ceiling. By day 3, there's lines on the floor. Ami makes a timetable for when everyone can go to shared spaces like the kitchen or bathroom. Usagi is distressed that all of her friends can't get along, even as she has an existential crisis about not wanting to be around them herself. Rei is suddenly the mom friend, when Mako realizes that trying to help everyone leads to her stress-baking leads to her taking too much time in the kitchen leads to everyone more pissed off. Minako is alternately drunk off her ass and egging everyone on, or making notes for pressure cooker situations to add to training. Haruka gets more sullen than anyone's seen her, Michiru loses some of her polish as her nerves finally fray by the end of the week, and is cussing people out by day 9. Setsuna immediately regrets her decision not to hunker down at the time gate. Hotaru's glad to be included but so anxious she starts collecting the house's lamps in her area. Ami has to make a timetable for using those as well, so Hotaru doesn't call death to them all. Somehow, they survive. When things let up, they all promise not to speak of it again, at least not directly, and then immediately all take at least 3 days to be by themselves in their own spaces. -- @katrani  [Usagi’s existential crisis, yessss. *  Ordered in Michru's least loss to greatest, or conversely, Usagi's greatest loss to least: 1) they stay at Michiru's mansion. It's huge. It's spacious. Michiru disappears within minutes and isn't seen again until 14 days later. Pluto finds her easily enough for tea, Rei does so out of dogged determination, and Haruka doesn't have to try. Usagi does, but she gets lost easily and there are so many snacks everywhere, she gets distracted. what's that? A room filled with tvs? another with comics? Mako worries about her getting cavities and uses the greatest kitchen ever to cook things up. She almost never leaves there. Ami poisons the pool every time she leaves as part of the great Hatemace. Chibs and Hotaru get a chance to be kids and actually play. If the starlights are there, Seiya and Haruka have a dramatic face off. Mina makes sure to leave graffiti everywhere. Despite her best efforts, she can't find Michiru's weakness. Artemis and Luna take a vacation. 2) They stay at Usagi's, Minako's, or Ami's. They do not stay at Rei's because Grandpa is old and Rei has put the fear of god in anyone who dares come to the temple. The houses/apartments are small and cramped with just the five inners. With everyone else? Chaos. Artemis and Luna are glad they aren't affected and escape. Chibs conveniently stays in the covid-free future/"look, I already have teh vaccine! Minako takes extremely long showers to piss Michiru off. Michiru is not sure how she got forced into this, she feels the hand of god in play and curses the writer internally. Pluto unravels the mystery of super!spy!Usagi's Dad but no one will ever know the answer to that. Ami escapes online and plays sims where they all have their own rooms, with Jet's help. Rei turns on the stove and pretends its the great fire to meditate. Haruka likes this long sleepover! She's never got to do one before! Usagi agrees and they plan horror movies and games and fast food. If the starlights are there, Seiya plans an even greater slumber party. Usagi helps both because more parties are always better. 3) They stay at Mako's two-room apartment. Chibs doesn't even step into the past, she's heard the horror stories from her aunts. Hotaru begins the sequence for the end of the world. Word of god or no word of god, Michiru refuses to go. When the narrative railroads her into it, she claims the balcony for herself, furnishes it, and locks the door so no one else can come. Pluto stays in the void, unreachable by all. Mako has never seen her apartment so filled and noisy and she's both elated and afraid for her plants. Her plants are terrified and tremble the entire time. Rei lives in the oven. Minako claims the bathroom--a toll is required for anyone else to enter. Ami puts all her brainpower to finding a cure to escape this hellhole. The bedroom is a nonstop competitive slumber party, and  Minako, Haruka, and Seiya have a song off. A toll is still required to enter the bathroom. *  (Putting Inners in college so Ami isn’t on call as a doctor) The good news is that the Outers’ ridiculously spacious mansion is, in fact, ridiculously spacious enough to accomodate eleven people (I’m certain Mamoru was not in your intentions, but it was agreed that Mamoru is a good quarantine podmate who will follow all necessary rules, and also Usagi would be insufferable if he’s not there and Mako points out that he lives alone and the social isolation would be killer) and three cats. Haruka’s happy to have Minako around all the time, and Pluto and Hotaru are thrilled to have Chibs. (Rei asked why Pluto and Chibiusa can’t just go back to their own times. Pluto gives a lengthy explanation about past and future virology that may or may not be total bullshit. No one really knows with her.) Ami is continuing her studies, as she does, and has a consistent schedule involving Study Hours and Socializing Hours. She does, however, make sure to swim in the Outers Mansion Pool every day at the same time Michiru customarily does. Neither of them says anything about this. Their rivalry continues. Michiru knows every nook, cranny, and secret passage there, and can easily avoid anyone who’s gotten stir-crazy should she so choose. Mako has taken command of the kitchen, and cannot be talked out of doing all the cooking. The food is delicious, nutritious, and is basically Quarantine Baking Times Twelve. Her skills are appreciated by all. Mamoru is likewise well-behaved, and mostly spends his time being quietly useful, spending time with Usagi, and listening to classical music with Michiru without otherwise interacting with her, making him the one man whose presence she will tolerate. The cats are well-behaved. They are the ones who are quarantining well. Minako, of course, is dying of boredom by the month and a half mark, and proceeds to take up a wide variety of hobbies, only to move on when they turn out way less fun than the video suggested. She annoys the others to show her how to bake tarts, or paint, or whatever it is Pluto does all day. Eventually she does find something she enjoys enough to stick with - wirework. While her preference is for jewelry, she does work with larger scale stuff just enough to present Mamoru with her masterpiece - Chicken Sculpture 2.0. (He seethes.) Rei, meanwhile, has also taken up new and exciting hobbies, but she will determinedly stick with each one until she has reached an arbitrary goal of Accomplishment. Even when she hates them, as is the case with birdwatching, Zumba, Mako’s attempts to refine her sense of taste, and trying to follow professional wrestling. She does take to cross-stitching once she discovers it’s basically stabbing something until it’s art. Felting, too. Between that and cleaning she’s a delight when she and Minako are not grating against each other. Which is frequently, with them both taking up all these new hobbies. (When assigning rooms, Michiru thought ahead. Rei’s and Usagi’s are next to each other, at the end of the hall. They bicker as much as ever but everyone else can get distance when really needed.) Usagi is happy to be somewhere with all her dearest friends, all the time! She is VERY BAD at waiting patiently until everyone else’s Productive Hours are over, be they online classes and homework or painting or quietly stealing Mamoru’s abstract mosquito coil shirt and throwing it through the Gate of Time and into a void where it will never again darken their sight. (Pluto isn’t a monster, and replaces it with a similar but less incomprehensible white T-shirt with a pattern. Mamoru assumes this was Minako’s doing.) Artemis assigns himself as resident Blonde Disaster Watcher, while Chibiusa - currently visiting as a roughly 14-year-old, matching Hotaru - smugly points out that she’s handling quarantine just fine. This prompts a round of furious research by the rest of the house as to whether or not cats can drink alcohol. Haruka’s practically run down a path around the Sprawling Kaioh Estate on which the mansion sits. How can she angst gaily without a mission? Sure obviously staying home and keeping safe is the most important thing and she will do her part, but that’s not nearly dramatic enough to hate herself for if she decides she’s quarantining inadequately! Michiru decides the best thing for this is to take her, Usagi, and Minako and sit them all down with empty scrapbooks. Usagi and Haruka emerge after the pandemic with eighteen volumes of Important Friendship Scrapbooks. There’s an adorable doodle of them high-fiving on the title page of each one. They designed it themselves. Despite this all, quarantine does actually pass without any of them killing each other, though Haruka and Michiru do strongly consider sending the others to Hikawa Shrine instead. Grandpa Hino can manage all this energy. No one except Chibiusa thinks to ask how Hotaru’s doing. They forgot to check her room.  -- Regalli  [I know legit sadness in my Senshi Heart that I cannot see Haruka and Usagi’s scrapbooks with my own eyeballs. Loved this whole thing, but fucking Hotaru at the end hahahah]

*  It's all a matter of perspective. Mako and Ami will keep themselves consistently busy with cooking/baking, plant caregiving, reading, eating sandwiches, etc. Mako will eventually cave, after like, day 6 and there are 3 dozen scones, they lost count of cookies, and they've got frozen meals for weeks. Rei keeps telling her to stop cooking because she stumbled into Mako's apartment with armfuls of Here! Curry! and convenience store meals. Usagi is sooooo boooooored all the time and that's a dangerous combo with Minako being soooooo booooooored all the time. The Rube-Goldberg machines, the destruction, the pranks. More about Rei sadly as I know you don't particularly care for her at all whatsoever: she is a rollercoaster. Every day is too different but it's also always the same. Usagi is eating too much of her food but nobody else is eating enough. It won't go bad this way, but Usagi STOP I GOT THAT KIND OF CHIPS FOR ME. She finds some peace with Michiru who herself trying to keep a grasp on her ~*ara*~ ness but won't admit that by day four has been wanting out. "The girls are sweet" she convinces herself as she listens to another screaming match between Usagi and Rei while Minako snapchats everything. Haruka lost it by the second day, she can't stand not doing anything and not being in motion. At first this was channeled into doing small workouts that Mako sometimes participated in from a distance, but those have stopped. How long have you been laying on her floor today, Haruka? You gonna get up and have something to eat today Haruka? Hotaru and Chibs keep themselves busy with games and movies (Chibs and Usagi fight over the TV), Setsuna plays sometimes but is just happy to watch and enjoy these moments of peace. Chib's pride is on the line because she is getting bored by day 5 but she will not be sooooooo booooooored like Usagi. Mamoru begins to bring them all takeout by day 10 and slips Michiru a bottle of wine when she comes down, she is grateful, the label brings a tear to her eye, he knows good wine. Luna and Artemis are there. They sure are cats, and they can come and go if they want. They are envied. At some point they are all laying in the living room together. They don't know how long, someone's playlist is playing in the background. They don't care. It's the longest anyone has gone without talking. It's the one of the few times they've truly felt connected with one another as a team. Minako then asks, "If I ate myself, would I become twice as big or cease to exist?" *  It's Usagi's idea, really. Quarantine procedures are announced and she can't help but imagine what it will be like for all her friends. Minako, stuck with family she doesn't get along with. Ami's mom under even more stress as an essential worker, probably avoiding her daughter to keep her safe from the virus. Makoto, completely alone! Rei, probably regressing from not seeing other people! This cannot stand. Usagi has visions of Mako making gigantic family style meals and keeping things scrupulously clean. Ami contentedly petting Luna and Artemis and keeping them all up to date on how things are progressing. Minako livening the mood by driving Rei insane. And all is right in Usagi's world. It IS like that... sometimes. Being stuck together 24/7 has its ups and downs, and there has never been a situation as prolonged as this one. There are tense moments, and fights over silly things like toilet paper and Usagi running up the phone bill by calling Mamoru so often. It's cramped. Ami tries to keep them up on their distance learning, and checks temperatures daily. They try some disastrous DIYS and recipes when supplies get low. Usagi and Rei have an emotional moment when one night, she tries to secretly use Moon Healing Escalation on the city. In the end, they come through stronger than ever, like always. I’ll be drawing for the bonus liveblog around the start of THE GIFTENING 2020 (currently looking to be Monday, 11 January 2021). Each bonus question is another chance to earn an entry! I CAN ABSOLUTELY AND SHAMELESSLY BE BOUGHT.

So, Rec'tober is almost over and I come in at the finish line.

But I wanted to write a special kind of fic rec, something beyond what I normally do. And so I target this post not towards our little corner of the internet that have read every big fic that was posted in the last two decades, but towards those who pop in from time to time, to those that loved Sailor Moon in their childhood and youth and feel that pinge of nostalgia for the world. This post is for you!

Not everything in the Sailor Moon franchise survived the test of time. There are parts of canon we REMEMBER differently - we remember what it made us feel at the time, but re-watching it, it just doesn’t have the same impact. We grew up, and we STILL LOVE THE FRIGGIN CONCEPT, but we notice the flaws we didn’t notice before. But we want that back - we want the feeling that we had watching the show when we were little. We want that wonder, that newness, that full heart about how GOOD and wholesome Usagi is, we want the miracle romance, we want our favorite characters but how they grew with us in our heads.

And well, there IS a place where we can find this fix of what it felt like. And it’s preserved in a treasure box of fanfiction. Of people who write these characters as they might be today, of people who take their essence and make it new.

So, this list is filled with tons of fics that tried to re-create canon with that affectionate, nostalgic feeling. I specifically for this list chose fics that dealt with canon themes - either through fix-it fics that took specific episodes and put their own spin to it, or to spins on canon, the what ifs - what if this specific choice weren’t made, what if the break up arc didn’t end, what if we took this plot point and spun it somewhere new, playing with the things we vaguely remember to have loved so dearly. (Though, of course, the world of Alternative Universes and Non-Senshi fics is vast, and if you are looking for a fix of that, please check out @uglygreenjacket ‘s elaborate worlds and @queenrisa14 fantastic AU spins out especially for this purpose!)

(Take note that these stories prominently feature stories revolving Usagi and Mamoru and the Miracle Romance, since that is my absolute jam. (Though it didn’t even used to be my most favorite part of the story growing up!) And some categories feature more stories by the same authors (for instance those that just like to dabble in What Ifs  - a not all TOO common trope, though I hope it were!))

So, let me transport you back into your childhood:

What If’s:

Forget Me Not by Antigone2 What if, post-stars, Usagi was suddenly the one to forget Mamoru for once, and he had to try really hard to make a new good first impression? This plays off all my buttons, and @idesofnovember is a master of making you remember the small details of these dorks that were so special.

What If by Antigone2 Canon had the habit of making Mamoru forget his memories, and @idesofnovember is a master of taking this trope and making it better. Here, Usagi wonders if Mamoru would have ever dated her if it weren’t for their history, and Setsuna, fed up, makes it happen.

Desperate and Divine by Antigone2 (Rated M) This story will always have a giant place in my heart: What If Mamoru never remembered after Beryl’s defeat, and Usagi was trying to get that one special night of closure. This had such an impact on me, reminding me how much I loved these characters, that it caused me to start writing fanfiction once more.

Royal Pain and Similes by Antigone2 What If the Senshi had found out Usagi is Serenity, but never that Mamoru is Endymion in this spectacular pinefest that will make your heart bleed.

Coming Of Age by Kasienda What if the R story arc surrounding Chibi-Usa was a little more sensical, a little more tragic, a little more realistic? This kid shows up in front of Mamoru’s door, Sailor Pluto informing him she’s from a great war in the future and him being the only one of age, he is now her legal guardian. Watch Mamoru and Usagi becoming parents to a war-traumatized Chibi-Usa, and all the struggles with it.

The Reveal by Kasienda This is a series of unconnected fics set in first season primarly and beyond, and it reinvents that crucial moment where the superhero personas of our favorite characters are revealed over and over and over again, because that moment can never be special and new enough.

A Craving for Milkshakes by Kasienda What if during first season, a monster-of-the-week had caused Tuxedo Mask and Sailor Moon to be telepathically linked? Watch how it would progressively have changed their dynamic in this endearing, sweet story!

Wring My Emotions and interpret canon anew:

Six Birthdays by Kiyoshi Dot This Fic reads like a poem, and it runs your through the ups and downs of the Miracle Romance via gifts Usagi receives forher birthday through the years, and it has the feeling of the Manga written all over it.

Aisuru, Mamo-chan by ellephedre Post-stars, Mamoru receives a package from Harvard. In it are all the letters Usagi wrote to him while he was dead during Stars. And yes, this read is as painful and therapeutic as you imagine it is.

Song for a scribbled out name by Antigone2 Centered in the first season during the anime’s Evil!Endymion arc, this little story teases you with what might have become of this enticing little nugget of piney, deliciously angsty plot!

The Odds Considered by Kiyoshi Dot Takes you through the secret romance of Usagi and Mamoru in the first season in this hauntingly beautiful way of forming words, and made me hurt in the way I always wanted the manga to hurt me.

Resiliency is My Mask by MamaLadyKT This is an episode fix surrounding the time Usagi was nearly suffocated by a monster-of-the-week in the infamous Saori-episode, and Mamoru cares a LOT about it.

Feel Good Little Moments with these characters as we remember them:

Je t’aime by Antigone2 A snapshot moment where Usagi uses the disguise pen to sneak into a university event of Mamoru’s and takes him for a little test. This little story feels so delightfully, essentially THEM in the way they behaved during later seasons of the anime that it makes my chest feel light and happy!

Day Of Delinquency by UglyGreenJacket A snippet of a moment that captures the humor of the series as my heart remembers it, in which Haruka takes Usagi on a joy ride, Usagi lands them in jail, and Mamoru and Michiri have to bail them out.

Distractions by Antigone2 follows Mamoru unsuccessfully trying to help Usagi study and it feels like home.

The Untouchable King in the Day and Night Lacunae Series by Tina Century What if we let @tinacentury show King Endymion the Sailor Moon Crystal series? This is exactly as delightful as it sounds.

A Romance For The Small Things by amomo Newest on this list, @spider-momo wrote these fall-themed snippets of Senshi interactions in the way that feel so painfully right and homey and warm they are bound to make you ache to re-acquaint yourself with these old friends of yours.

Public Eye by Antigone2 Canon never gave us a terrible lot of interaction between Usagi and Tuxedo Mask or Mamoru and Sailor Moon. This is a cheeky and delightful little ficlet about Mamoru having to pretend he has No Relations Going On With This Superheroine.

Rainbow by Kasienda I’m pretty sure I put this fic on every fic rec list I ever wrote, but @kasienda encapsulated everything I love about Mamoru and Usagi’s dynamic in the first season of the anime and made my heart ache in its simplistic beauty.

The Space Between by Uglygreenjacket This series of ficlets explores the space between R and S and gives you that sweet feeling of Usagi and Mamoru tender baby love as we were used to in S!

A Week With Mamoru Chiba by Dreams In Pink This fic takes us through a series of Mamoru-centered mini-stories in a mostly first season second that feel so delightfully warm and funny it will warm your heart.

Flower Power By irritable-vowel-types Do you miss the absolute ridiculousness that were these show’s monster-of-the-week, or Tuxedo Mask’s outrageous speeches? This fic is a crackfic, and yet it somehow manages to feel EXACTLY as ridiculous and not a tad more than those original canon monsters.

All’s Fun With Love and Orbs by irritable-vowel-types This is set in Super-S, and reads like an episode as it should have been. What if one of the Amazon Quartett’s shenanigans was to flip all love into hate for one delightfully hilarious read?

The Thing About Your Transformation by AngelMoon Girl Delightfully funny, this little ficlet explores the fact that Mamoru can’t quite deal with the fact that for a short moment before every battle, Usagi may be all glitter, but she’s also briefly naked as she transforms.

Shall We Dance by ncisduckie A snippet in time and a secret relationship as Serenity and Endymion share a bittersweet dance.

And, if you still want more, I wrote my own canon spins, too. Most notably, the Ikigai and Yugen duo (Rated M), in which I tried to hand-pick everything I loved about the Sailor Moon story, manga and anime and all, of all the seasons, and tried to reinvent it in a way that felt contemporary and told one consecutive narrative within the anime setting. And in contrast to that for the manga meets anime setting, my story Priorities (Rated M) tried to encapsulate what the feeling of reading the Manga for the first time felt like to me, but now with a very adult and mature and heart-aching spin to it.

Well she’s very carefree, cheerful and very polite. She’s very thoughtful to those who she is close with as she’s not used to being friends with anyone her own age she tries her best to get along with most people. Even those who she might not overly like she still is polite and kind, as a ruler she believes it is best to be kind to everyone even if you have a dislike of them. She’s overly a fan of getting into arguments thus why she tries her best to keep up a polite front.

Due to her upbringing she can be kind of naive to some things but that doesn’t mean she isn’t willing to learn about them! She loves to learn new things more so if it is about Japanese culture which she is a big fan of and rambles about a lot. She has a habit of using outdated slang but she likes how they sound so even if corrected she’d likely still use them, unless of course it is something that makes someone uncomfortable then she’d be happy to switch it up.

When talking about things she likes eg; occults, serial killers she can get very starry eyed and enthusiastic about them. 

Overall she might seem super ditzy but she’s very smart. She does her best to never show fear as she believes as a princess she shouldn’t show it, so her being able to feel fear and such is somewhat nice in a way to her but she also doesn’t know how to deal with such emotions. She puts her people of her country before herself as she would do the same for her friends, even if being loyal like that does make her unhappy— she doesn’t have a choice in the matter.

When she’s not being a Princess? She’s very likely watching her J-Dramas or Serial Killer documentaries! She also rather likes to read, even if the reading might be on occult realted things she finds them very fascinating.

Oh she loves anything related to occult’s, she’s a big horror fan Friday the 13th being her most favourite! She is a big fan of Japanese culture, she loves J-Drama’s she also really loves animals. 

Sonia is a big fan of food from different countries and finds it really fascinating how different cultures have different types of foods, so she often watches cooking shows in many different languages in hope to learn about the food and get her cooks to make the food for her to try!

Sour Plums?! Kinda simple really, she isn’t really big on dislikes as she’s a very open minded person to a lot of things! ALSO men who are rude to women and  those who jump to assume things about people.

Being perverted? She find it extremely distasteful and will call them out on it, she’ll also try and get them to do things for her if possible.

She also dislikes those who only wish to be friends with her seeing as she’s a princess, she wishes when not in her homeland to be treated as a normal girl. She also finds it annoying when people tell her she can’t do something as she’s a princess she finds it bullshit honestly.

I’d say rather easily, she’s very friendly and likes to meet new people! She’s easy going and honestly is open to talk about most things as I’ve said she’s very eager to learn so! Even if it isn’t something she knows about she’d listen and ask questions, when it comes to getting to know a person's hobbies etc;

how easily they get crushes:

Uhhh rather easily as she is not used to people around her own age it’s only natural, while she isn’t sure of the feeling per say she definitely gets crushes. She’d likely be very open about it and maybe make a comment about a J-Drama? As it’s the only way she knows how to express that type of feeling.

I mean most people? I think people who share her love of occultism is a big winner honestly? As it’s something she’s extremely passionate about.

She doesn’t have time for people who are rude? Like she’d just shut them down right away and move on.

I LOVE HARRY POTTER LET’S START WITH THE HOUSES

- Gryffindor: Kendou, Shishida, Setsuna, Tetsutetsu, Manga, Bondo, Awase

- Ravenclaw: Yui, Sen, Shiozaki, Reiko, Rin

- Hufflepuff: Tsuburaba, Pony, Honenuki, Kamakiri, Shoda

- Slytherin: Kuroiro, Monoma, Kinoko

- Tsuburaba goes around making friends with anyone and everyone. No, really, during the first year he manages to befriend Sen, Shishida, Kuroiro and Monoma even though they aren’t in his house. He’s really not house-competitive at all, and is very happy to meet people from other houses in different classes.

- Quidditch ? Quidditch ! Special mention goes to Tetsutetsu, Setsuna, Pony and Honenuki for being super invested in the sport ! They’re all pretty good at it too…

- Kendou is top of all her classes EXCEPT the one she shares with the slytherins. That’s how she met Monoma for the first time; he’s very good at imitating the teachers’ moves which makes it very easy for him to learn new charms and defense against the dark arts.

- Pony and Kamakiri animagus— guess their animals

- Kinoko is the very first student of her level to have understood the patronus spell, she says it’s easy to remember happy things in every situation

- Shiozaki is quite good with plants and others. She often takes care of the garden, and of magical plants (that’s how She became friends with Kinoko, who’s the same). She once saw Shishida who was taking care of the magical beasts (Hagrid? Is this you?), and they became friends

- Shishida is a werewolf. Enough said.

- Bondo can’t talk ! He uses sign language or a spell he learned when he was small for his words to appear on top of his head whenever he speaks.

- Manga loves that spell. Even if he is capable of speaking, he uses it a lot to emphasize his words and sometimes he even draws on thin air with his wand!

- Kuroiro is very good at quidditch, yet not very interested in it. Found Honenuki on the field once, and now trains more to be able to (flirt) see him

- Nirengeki “I got a bad grade I’m gonna die” Shoda

- he thought he would go to Ravenclaw but was surprised to end up in Hufflepuff. Not sad, just surprised.

- One day Yui drank a potion in potion class to prove she hadn’t failed it to her teacher, and ended up growing twice her size. At least it was the effect the potion was supposed to have, but now the entire school knows her as the big girl

- pretty boy Sen gets asked out for prom by at least ten girls any time there is one. Always ends up going with one of his friends (Kinoko one time, Tsuburaba once, Awase too, and even Monoma) because he’s too awkward about all these letters.

- that time he went with Monoma was one of the most embarrassing (for both of them) because as they both had quite a fanclub they didn’t get one minute of peace as there was always someone staring at them. Decided to leave before the end because “too many eyes on us”

- “At least you really stole the show !” “Tsuburaba, shut up before I throw you out of the top of the astronomy tower”

- but now rumors about them leaving early to make out go around and that’s even worse

- Silent Reiko is not seen a lot out of the dorms except in class. She doesn’t like walking around the big corridors, and especially hates the stairs.

- Awase likes pranks a lot. Like, a lot. Nobody knows why, he just likes pranking people. Also, touch his pet cat and you’re dead

- Rin is strangely talented in potions. He is proud of that only skill he masters, because his grades in history of magic are everything but good. Hey it's the most obscure ship ever again. Can i ask for a scenario with Tokage Setsuna x Kamakiri Togaru? You can literally write anything since there's almost no content about these guys.

“A new science museum opened up near the dorms,” Kendo says one night while she’s painting Setsuna’s nails. Setsuna lets out a quiet hum, blowing on the dark blue nails of her other hand.

“That sounds cool. Do you think they’d have any dinosaur facts? I’m mean I’m sure they would since it’s a museum, but the last one we went to didn’t have anything on dinosaurs! That was such a bummer, right?”

Kendo nods. “Yeah. You were quite upset the rest of the day. I think you scared Pony with how quiet you were.”

Setsuna shrugs. “I told her I was fine and she got over it. Could’ve been avoided if the museum had stuff about dinosaurs, like most science museums,” she mutters.

Kendo laughs, wiping away a stray mark of nail polish. “Yeah, I get you. Hey, maybe you could take Kamakiri with you. He’s been saying he’s going to go and he hasn’t this whole time. It’d be a cute date for the both of you.”

Setsuna mulls it over for a minute before nodding. “I think that’d be great! Thanks class prez!”

“You’re quite welcome. Now, a layer of glitter or dots?” Kendo grins.

“Dots of course!”

“Kamakiri-kun!”

Setsuna rushes over to her boyfriend, who’s currently engaged in an arm wrestling match with Tetsutetsu. He grunts at her, using all his might to beat Tetsutetsu.

“Class prez told me about this awesome new science museum and I think we should definitely go like right now! C'mon!”

He looks up at her, about to voice a question, when Tetsutetsu slams his arm down. He groans, nodding at the silver boy with a sigh. “You win. Again. I’ll beat you one day.”

“Will you go with me?” she asks with a smile. He nods.

“Of course. I see you’re already ready. Give me a minute, I’ll meet you outside.”

She nods, walking outside of the dorms and waiting by the gate.

Kamakiri meets her soon enough. He’s just wearing a simple button down with ripped jeans, but she still thinks he looks great.

She herself is wearing a simple sapphire colored dress with matching black flats, so she isn’t in much position to judge.

The walk to the museum was mainly filled with her chattering on about dinosaurs, but Kamakiri didn’t seem to mind. He even rambles about insects for a little while, before letting her dominate the conversation again.

He gets the door for her as they walk in, even paying for her ticket.

“What a gentleman,” she laughs, Kamakiri’s cheeks turning a light pink.

“Oi. Can’t a guy just do something nice for his girlfriend?” He crosses his arms and looks down on her.

She rolls her eyes. “Yeah yeah. C'mon, I think your bugs are somewhere over here.”

He allows himself to be pulled along, despite the fact that it’d be easier for him to lead the way since he’s a head taller than her. He argues this point to her a few times, to which she just blows raspberries at him. He finally relents, and they make it to the bug section with no issue.

There’s all sorts of facts about bugs, some he knows and some he doesn’t. There’s also many preserved bugs to go along with the facts. It looks like a bigger version of his collection. He loves it, though he’d never admit it.

Setsuna smiles at him, knowing exactly what he’s thinking.

“It’s really cool, right?”

He looks over and nods. “Yeah. Lots of bugs to look at.”

She hums, pulling him towards a section of butterflies. She stops in front of a black one with red on its wings.

“The red postman butterfly develops its poison by eating toxic plants,” she reads. She looks back over at him, head tilted. “Did you know that one?”

He nods. She frowns for a moment, then drags them over to the ants.

“Bulldog ants can leap seven times the length of their bodies! Woah. That’s probably super far for an ant.”

“Mhm. That’s cool, I didn’t know that one,” he says. She gives him a wide grin and leads him all over the bug section, reading out the facts that she finds coolest.

They eventually leave the bug section, and head over to the dinosaur area. As much as he doesn’t want to leave the cool bugs, the smile on Setsuna’s face is worth it.

There’s skeletons all over, standing on podiums, hanging from the ceiling, you name it. Setsuna rushes over to one that looks fifteen feet long. Its got spikes sticking up from its back and teeth sharper than Tetsutetsu’s. There are some drawing next to it, to show what it looked like it when it was alive.

He walks over, resting an arm on her head. “So, what’s this one?”

She shrugs his arm off, leaning over to read the plaque. “A Dimetrodon. It says that they were lizard-like, and found all over the world. It’s also a meat eater. Cool, huh?”

“Yeah. What’s that one?” he asks, pointing at another fossil. It’s big, with a long neck. Kind of like All Might’s real form.

“Yeah. He does have a pretty long neck,” Setsuna says with a giggle. He blushes, not realizing he said that aloud.

Setsuna grabs his hand and they walk over. She doesn’t let go of his hand.

“It’s a Brontosaurus. It was a herbivore. They think it used its tail to fight.”

“Awesome! I’m sure it was tough, even though it only ate leaves.”

She nods in agreement.

They walk along, reading facts about dinosaurs, switching back to bugs, rinse and repeat. It’s fun, and Kamakiri even buys her a dinosaur plush from the gift shop at the end. She buys him a praying mantis plush in return.

They hold hands on the walk back to the dorms. Some of their friends holler at Kamakiri, and Kendo gives Setsuna a knowing smile.

Tetsutetsu calls Kamakiri over. He gives her a smile.

“Guess I gotta go see what that loser wants. Thanks, for the date today. That was fun. We should go back soon.”

She smiles with a nod. “Yeah! Go see what Tetsutetsu wants, you’ll know where to find me if you need me.” She leans up onto her toes, placing a peck on his cheek. Both of their cheeks are red and Setsuna hurries off.

She sits on her bed in her dorm room later that night, relaying the day to her friends. It’s another nail painting session, since Pony and Ibara weren’t there last night. It’s fun and she feels happy for the rest of the night. She knows that she’ll definitely have to go with Kamakiri again, and soon.

Haneul acts like a puppy, he's just so friendly and funny. Unfortunately he is also the butt of jokes sometimes.

Lunette can cook foods with strange ingredients and a cauldron. Example, a strawberry ice pop made with toilet paper, that doesn't actually have toilet paper in it at all.

It’s been a rough week, and things did not go as planned, at all, anywhere. Super glad the work week’s over. Now to get past this stupid snow.

I’ll try to get the Ancient Tongue cipher wrap-up post finished this weekend, but I also have to restock the queue on one of my blogs (more time consuming that one would think), and start my spring cleaning, and start typing my fics for Gundam 00 Week. I wrote the first drafts of like four of them at work, so it’d be a waste not to type them and post them. And only like three of the seven days will be Setsuna/Saji! That’s a low percentage for me, who has come to embrace the SetsuSaji even more over time.

(Fun fact: Setsuna/Saji was one of my preferred pairings when the show was first out, actually, but sometimes rewatches can change your impression of things. So now my impression is “They’re just friends in canon but if Gundam Seed Destiny has taught me anything, it’s ‘Fuck Canon’ so I’m going ship the heck out of this anyways”).

Of course, one of the prompts for G00 Week is threatening to get out of hand (Day 5, “Five Times”). I had too many ideas for scenes in it and I’ll need to do research unless the scenes are real short and kind of vague. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaand I might have gotten a bit teary-eyed over them (It won’t be a happy fic, until the end but only if I go Good End with it. Otherwise it will be more melancholy than a sheepdog wearing a cantaloupe).

Day 2 (Duality; Twins; AU) will be a scene from my Zestiria crossover idea though! I’ll probably post over on my writing journal but if I remember, I’ll reblog the links.

After 00 Week, I want to focus on some original writing, though. I need to work on revising/finishing/whatever my NaNo novel from last year. It’s got a lot of promising stuff but none of it goes together very well yet, and the main couple feel a little weak in the characterization still. It happens. I’m Not Going Anywhere

rishima. He has been ignoring all of your texts and just leaving you on read. You were starting to feel like he didnt care about you anymore. The same thing was happening with your best friends Todoroki and Midoriya.Every chance they had they would go of to spend time with Momo and Ochako. Honestly you were both jealous of how Momo and Chako were getting to spend time with their lovers while Katsu was ignoring you, and angry that basically everyone you like has been ditching you to do other fun things while your left to sit alone in your room in the dark. This was making you feel like no one liked you anymore and that you were boring. You felt like all of your friends had found people better than you. You decided to try and text your boyfriend again.

You: Hey Bakugo. What are you doing right now.

Bakubae: Im training with Kiri still.

You: I miss you.

Once again your lover left you on read. You were wondering if he was telling the truth about training with Kiri. Maybe he was actually cheating on you and just using Kirishima as an excuse. You got up and went to Kirishima's room to see if you were right or if you were just worrying as usual. You knocked on his door, no answer. You knock again and hear him yell from inside “coming!” when he opens the door and sees your sad face he gets worried. “Y/n-Chan what's wrong!” he says and it makes you finally feel like someone cares about you but at the same time it fills you with despair knowing Katsuki just lied to you.

 How long had he been doing this. What was he doing? Why would he lie to you? “So Katsu isn’t training with you.” you muttered as tears came to your eyes.

 “No i havent trained with him since last friday.” He said obviously realizing there was something wrong.

 “Do you have any idea of where he might be? He told me he was training with you.” You whisper trying not to ugly cry all over Kirishima.

  “I’m sorry I dont know but let me call him for you.” he whispers now too as he invites you into his room to wait.

He grabs his phone and calls Kastsuki. bakugo answers as soon as it rings. “Hey bro whats up?”

 you cant hear what he says but fromm the look on Kiris face its not very good. then in the middle of Katsu’s scentence Kirishima hangs up and slowly sets his phone back on his night stand. “Come on we have to go get him from 1B’s dorms.”

You swear you can hear your heart stop beating for a minute. Then you can't stop the tears from falling, Kirishima hugs you and tells you everything is going to be ok. This should be him. This should be your boyfriend. This should be Katsuki. But the cold hard truth is that its not. Its his best friend who's been there for you twice as many times as he ever has. and now you find out he was at the 1B dorms this whole time while he lied to you. You start thinking about all the girls in 1B who are prettier than you like Setsuna and Pony.You finally realize you never stood a chance against such attractive women. You were too kind for Katsukis angry personality, he wanted someone with more fire than he had. You were too innocent for his tastes. When you were walking kirishima held your hand trying his best to convince you it wasn't as bad as you were making it but you weren't actually listening. When you got there Bakugo was waiting on the porch. He didn't expect Kiri to bring you along with him. He clearly just saw you holding hands with his best friend. The second you realized you were holding his hand you quickly pulled your hand off of his. Right as you were about to say something to Bakugo he starts speaking,” Since you too seem to be all lovey dovey tonight I'll walk myself back.” You swear you feel your heart shatter in your chest right there.

“Its not what you think bro she was just worried about you! You havent talked to her in 3 days!” Kirishima yells back at him. You just stand there silently as tears fall. you feel so tired like if you cry anymore youd go blind.

“ “Just worried” my ass you two were holding hands! Bet you proabbly had your hands all over her before you came here.” He said angrily. Was... Was he drunk? You sat down on the cold hard cement as Kirishima ran to catch up with bakugo, and hopefully to talk some sense into him. Kirishima noticed as soon as he got close to bakugo. Yes, He was indeed drunk.

“Bro come on your just drunk do you really think that she would cheat on you with me? come on dude can’t you tell shes been crying! This is so unmanly of you to ignore her then accuse her of cheating on you! What were you doing here anyways and where did you get that alcohol? If anyone has a right to think your cheating it would her!” Kirishima was at his last straw with bakugo. He was ready to just pick you up and carry you back to the doorm and to keep you away from his drunk, dumbass friend.

“I dont even remember how i ended up there. All i remember is Monoma talking shit about our class again then its all just kind of blurry.” As he finished his phone went off Kirishima snatched it and ran. He looked at the notification. It was from Kendo. it said “Hope you had fun cutie cant wait to see you tomorrow (kissy face heart eyes emoji)” His heart hurt for you as he ran to show you.You saw right before Bakugo took it away.

“whats that about?” you manage to rasp out. your still crying the tears never really stopped.

“I dont know everything that happened is just blurry to me.”He says feeling a little guilty for  accusing you of cheating after he himself had done it too.

“Do you... Do you love her?” you ask with your voice now a little louder than a whisper.

“No.” Kirishima just falls to the ground and hugs you hoping to comfort you some, but that just pisses bakugo off. 

“Nothing happened.” you state as bakugo looks at you confused.

“ What do you mean?” he says rudely.

“Between Kirishima and I. Nothing Happened other than hugging and hand holding. He was just trying to comfort me when you couldnt be there for me. Just like right now. He's the one hugging me but it should be you. Hes the one rubbing my back and telling me everything is going to be ok. Hes the one doing everything you arent. Even though your standing right there watching me cry your doing nothing. Kirishima is making me feel like I mean something. You, you just make me feel like I’m nothing but a toy. Like you only like me because I have a pretty face. Let me tell you something Katsuki. Just because Ihave a pretty face doesn't give you the right to treat me like I'm useless... like I do nothing for you except look pretty... like I can't cry because that would be too embarrassing for you. Kirishima is being everything you arent right now. He is being a man. You,all your being is a fucking coward katsuki. You cant even come out and say it to my face that you cheated. The text she sent is soilid evidence. You havent even appologised. You dont think you did it just because you dont remember but you did. annd this is the mess you got yourself into.” Katsuki was in full on tears now crying on his knees in front of you because he knows everything your saying is true and that right now his best friend was being the boyfriend he could never be. he could never drop his huge ego and all of his pride for even a second to see if you were happy or if youneeded anything. deep down in his heart he knew that Kirishima was better fit to be your boyfriend than he ever was.

“Yeah. I had a nightmare about loosing you. except everything was my fault. I got super drunk and cheated on you with Kendo.
